YWCA Announces Women of Distinction

MANKATO, Minn.- The YWCA of Mankato is proud to announce the 2008 Women of Distinction – Shanon Robinson, Anna Thill, Sr. Mary Donald Miller and Young Woman of Distinction, Karishma Kamath who were honored April 17th at the YWCA’s 36th Annual Women of Distinction event, 5:00 p.m. at the Best Western Garden Inn, North Mankato.

The Women of Distinction award is presented to three women each year and one Young Woman (age 16-25) whose achievements over a sustained period of time have made a significant contribution to community life and embody the YWCA’s mission of eliminating racism and empowering women. The achievements may be through employment or volunteer service. The theme this year is Brilliance in Leadership . Over 100 women have been honored since 1973.

The annual Women of Distinction event also serves as the YWCA’s annual fundraiser. Proceeds from the event are used to support YWCA community programs that promote the elimination of racism, mentorship for young women, and quality and affordable childcare. Tickets to the event are $35 ($30 for YWCA members) and can be purchased by calling the YWCA at 345-4629 extension 21. Tables of eight can be purchased for $250.

The YWCA incorporated a silent purse auction into our Annual Women of Distinction Event. The money raised from this auction is used to support our programs. In 2008 we received more than 70 donated purses, handbags, wallets, clutches, coin purses and more.
